Atacama Desert, Chile
For the month I stayed out in San Pedro de Atacama I would both see this volcano shooting up from the horizon on my walks into town and it was almost a hazard to drive by on my way out to the Altiplano as my head would inevitably swivel. Eventually I started spending my drives nearby plotting out potential spots to hike up to an appropriate view point. Which after finding one with both the volcanic back drop and baby canyon ripping through the landscape I was already pretty happy. Then to top it all off because I was on the edge of the altiplano looking out over the desert the intense vibrant red sunlight of the desert sunset washed over the landscape incredibly intensely. And it was probably pretty funny to watch me taking these photos as all of a sudden I was dancing around with my lens cap trying to stop any lens flaring as the angle got around my lens hood.
