Yakushima, Japan
Very cool landscape above the island of Yakushima where you get to work your way out of the tropics, past the highland wetlands, and into dense mountain shrub foliage full of the iconic deer and monkeys of the island. Unfortunately I didn't snap a pic of the troop of monkeys I came across as they were definitely in a we will fight you mode if you look at us too long. But I did end up with a bit of animal traffic where I got stuck slowly meandering down the trail after a very chill dear minding their own business. The rock formations and mountain formations were extremely cool up there and according to the folks I met on the way up very reminiscent of Naruto. The light was a bit strong as I wanted to time things to not need to do the rope sections in the dark on the way down but all in all was truly breath taking to be running up there with the world almost entirely to myself snapping photos away.
