Klakkur, Faroe Islands
I almost left! This was my first Faroe Islands photo opportunity and the light was fading and it really looked like the horizon was covered but I was fooled! The mountains hid that the horizon must have been open enough to let the light through to the higher altitude layers of clouds which was the whole reason I went to this site so eagerly when I spotted the cloud forecast had such a mix of altitudes and sparsity of clouds. But thankfully this kind German couple showed up and I thought well if they got here for now I should hold out a little longer even if I have been trying to be more effecient about lighting that is a lost cause and a time sink. They were extremely prepared too they had taken the ferry from Germany with their car and had a whole hot chocolate set up to keep warm in the winds. And then sure enough after chatting for a bit as I had hoped for the higher altitude clouds caught the light and the sky exploded! And somehow we also got a dip in the wind too getting an excellent reflection from the water of the colours! Was hard to decide exactly on which of the various compositions I'd tried throughout the day but for this shot I swung a bit more right just because I could capture the extra colour and reflection there really contrasting with the deep blue in between.
