Glacier Lagoon, Iceland
The beginning of the never ending sunset started here. I showed up to the glacier lagoon and things were mostly a giant block of grey to the east and then open blue tone sky to the west which generally neither are good ingredients for a very dynamic sunset. BUT THEN these high altitude winds swept through a spattering of very dynamic clouds at a whole mix of altitudes that caught the light so beautifully above the blue and whites of the glaciers floating along with very little ground wind ensuring reflections nicely too. Even without the epic lighting this place was so cool. There's an entire lagoon of icebergs floating along extremely close to land for incredible viewing from all sorts of different sides and they tend to also be drifting out to see and being replenished so there is plenty of variety in them. And there's also the super cool sounds of the deep twanging of cracking ice vibrating through the water and air and the occasional grand cacophony of a roll over. If I went back as not a poor college student blowing the last of their dollars on a graduation trip and needing to sleep on a pile of clothes a few months later I'd definitely try and do one of their boating adventures to that looked like they go out among the icebergs. It's also cool too that this is all in the shadow of a dramatic volcanic mountain range with grand glaciers pouring into the plains below. Very cool place and what an insane night. I think I walked away exhausted and full in the soul from so many incredible compositions experienced and captured.
